Hypnosis & hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is one of the oldest of all therapeutic techniques and was even practised in Ancient Egypt thousands of years ago.

In 1955, the British Medical Association endorsed the practice of hypnosis in medical school education. Since then, it has become a valuable addition to conventional medical treatment.

All hypnotic states are typically characterised by wonderfully pleasant feelings of relaxation.

What is hypnosis?

It is an altered state of consciousness, very similar to day-dreaming. You experience waking hypnosis several times a day, for instance, when your attention is fixed on one thing, to the exclusion of all else, or when you are lost in a really good book.

What is clinical hypnotherapy?

This is the use of hypnosis for the treatment and relief of a variety of physical and psychological symptoms.

What is cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy?

Cognitive and behavioural therapies yield successful and effective results and are based on the philosophy that people are disturbed, not by the events in life that happen to them, but by the beliefs they hold of those events. Once identified, these unhealthy beliefs can be weakened and replaced by healthy beliefs both in and out of hypnosis. Cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy can help treat a variety of conditions.

Is hypnosis like being asleep?

No, hypnosis is a state very similar to sleep, but one in which the mind is very much awake and in control.

________________________________________________________________________________

Who is in control of my mind?

You are, at all times. Clinical hypnotherapy is not about control, but about a trained therapist helping a patient to make a great positive change in their life. The fact that you can be hypnotised at all does not indicate a lack of will-power, only that you have allowed a practitioner to help you enter an altered state of consciousness and be ready to make those changes.

What can hypnotherapy help with?

Hypnotherapy and cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy can help you overcome or manage a wide variety of symptoms, including anxiety, assertiveness, blushing, compulsive behaviours, confidence, exam nerves and other performance anxieties, phobias, headaches, weight control, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), insomnia, nail biting, nightmares, pain control, panic, psychosexual issues, stopping smoking, skin complaints, snoring, stress and many more.
